7 Unique Wedding Photo Booth Ideas
Weddings are becoming so much more Instagram-friendly. While, at one stage, it was perfectly acceptable to gather your guests outside the venue for a professional photo shoot, in 2023, the photography has to be so much more than that.
Of course, that’s ultimately a good thing. From a practical point of view, lining your guests up in order of height or by outfit colour makes sense, but it’s not exactly romantic. Nor does it give an accurate indication of what the wedding is actually like – or at least, we hope it doesn't!
That’s where photo booths come in. For those who aren’t in the know, photo booths are small sections placed inside or outside of the venue, where guests can gather and take pictures at their own pace.
They are, in effect, mini stages that are designed to be the perfect backdrop for photographers. They’re also a godsend to Instagram pages, and they can take up most of the room of a wedding-themed Instagram photo book!
But if you’re planning your own wedding, and you can’t quite think of how to design a photo booth, then you’re going to need a few ideas. Below are our seven favorite ideas for unique wedding photo booths, and why they will be perfect for your special day:
Flowers… Flowers Everywhere
First off, flowers. Everyone loves flowers. They’re essentially grown for weddings. And for keeping us alive, of course. But mostly weddings. This is why you should take advantage and create a photo booth that is entirely made out of flowers. We don’t really need to explain why pictures taken here are bound to be beautiful, but they can really add an element of romance to your wedding photographs while also radiating a sense of luxury and class.
Mad As A Hatter
It's important to note: you needn't design the photo booth itself. You can hire out any old booth, and provide some accompaniments instead. One of the biggest trends at the moment is… wait for it… hats. That’s right. Silly hats. From gladiator helmets to chicken hats – hats are all the rage for photo booths this year. And to be fair, it’s easy to see why. Doing something like this adds a flavour of fun to weddings, ensuring that they don’t become monotonous or, even worse, formal.
Colors! We Beg You! Just A Few Colors!
This one comes directly from us. Color. Please, for the love of all that’s holy, insert some color into your photo booth. We don’t know why, but weddings seem to be becoming more and more bland. Either the theme is white, or it’s gold, or it’s rose-gold. That’s it. But if you want your wedding to really pop when you upload the pictures to a photo book maker, you need some colors to add the vibrancy. Create a lively canvas of colored ribbons and streamers, and we swear, it'll be enough to make your photographs sing.
You’re So Art Deco
Another common theme for weddings today is art deco – or the Great Gatsby wedding theme, for all of us unenlightened folk. Even if you don’t have an art deco theme, we think this is a great idea to add something a little different to your photo booth pictures. Just a few art deco patterns on a canvas can be a great idea to add some French flavor and ensure your wedding looks glamorous.
Automatic, Systematic, Hydromatic
If you want to go all out for your wedding, we suggest bypassing the standard photo booth for something a little more greasy. When we say greasy, we don’t mean the nearby takeaway store, we mean Greasy. That’s right, another big photo booth theme sees people renting out Grease-like automobiles and inviting guests to snap their photographs in front of them. It might sound a little random, but if you do some online digging, you’ll see that this technique actually delivers some incredible, eye-catching photographs.
NEON!
We spoke earlier about adding some color, and there are a few different ways you can do that. One of them is with lighting. If you’re already working out how to create the perfect wedding photo book, then make sure you provide ample opportunities for eye-catching, striking images. Go for neon photo booths, which use neon lighting to illuminate your guests. This theme sounds a little simple, sure, but sometimes the simple options look the best!
Traditional. Quiet. Beautiful.
Lastly, if none of these photo booth ideas is buttering your biscuits, we suggest going for something traditional. Hire a professional photographer, get them to gather your guests in the most scenic spot of the venue, and start snapping. What’s that, we hear you say? Haven’t we just gone full circle? Well, yes. Yes, we have. But just because more weddings are involving photo booths, that doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing. What we’re saying is, do whatever you think will look good and will make you happy. At the end of the day, that’s what really counts. Oh, and the photo book.
